About Madrid

Madrid is the capital city of Spain and lies almost in the geographical centre of the country. With a population of just over 3 million it is a busy and popular European city. It sits at an altitude of 650m on the Castillian plateau. Here you will find grand palaces and larger than life churches. The city is also renowned for its sporting pedigree especially in the world of football.

The city is a capital of culture where you can find all things from international cuisine and drink to some of Europe’s best nightlife. Of course if you want to get away from it all there is the option to visit any number of beautiful parks and gardens which fill the city. One of particular interest is the Retiro Park which is near the Prado museum and filled with a small lake, Victorian greenhouse and crystal palace.

This is a great city break destination which has a lot to offer from shopping to nightlife and some great restaurants. For shopping head to the Salamanca district for top name fashion, if you are looking for unique Madrid fashion then Calle Fuencarral is hard to beat. For art the Prado museum is hard to beat as it has one of the best art collections in the world. If this is not enough then why not stay out late and party like the Spanish.

Weather

In the summer the temperature in Madrid soars and the days are long and sun drenched. The best months are considered to be in the spring in April and May when the skies are clear and the temperatures are pleasant. During the winter the capital gets pretty cold because of its elevation
